- Ingredients:
- 2½ cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda (Arm & Hammer or Cow Brand)
- 1 tsp salt
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 beaten egg
- ½ cup thick orange marmalade
- ¼ cup white (distilled) vinegar
- 1 cup sweet milk
- 2 tbsp melted shortening
- Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9 x 5 x 8-inch loaf pan.
- Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
- In a separate bowl, combine the beaten egg with marmalade, then stir in vinegar, milk, and melted shortening.
- Pour the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients all at once. Stir until just blended (don’t over-mix).
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
- Bake for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
