- Ingredients:
- 200g dried short pasta shapes (fusilli or penne)
- 250g small broccoli florets (frozen or fresh)
- 40g butter
- 40g plain flour
- 600ml semi-skimmed milk
- 75g mature cheddar cheese
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 185g tinned tuna in water or brine, drained
- 2 firm, ripe tomatoes, sliced (optional)
- Method:
- Cook Pasta & Broccoli: Boil pasta in a large saucepan. Add broccoli for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking. Drain and set aside.
- Make Cheese Sauce: In a separate saucepan, melt butter, add flour, and gradually whisk in milk until smooth and thick. Stir in half of the cheese and season with salt and pepper.
- Assemble Bake: Combine pasta and broccoli in a shallow ovenproof dish. Flake tuna on top. Pour cheese sauce over, add tomato slices (if using), and sprinkle with remaining cheese.
- Grill to Perfection: Place under a hot grill for 4-5 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden.
