Easy Fish Pie

Craving a comforting, flavorful dinner? This Easy Fish Pie is your answer! Packed with smoked haddock, prawns, and cod, it’s a cozy dish that warms the soul. Topped with creamy mashed potatoes, it’s perfect for a satisfying family meal. ✨
  • Ingredients:
For the mashed potatoes:
  1. 1kg/2lb 4oz potatoes, cut into chunks
  2. 50g/2oz butter
  3. 100g/3½ oz crème fraîche
  4. 3 tbsp warm milk
  5. Pinch of salt and white pepper
For the filling:
  1. 500ml/1 pint milk
  2. 250g/9oz smoked haddock
  3. 200g/7oz cod loin
  4. 1 onion
  5. 1 bay leaf
  6. 3 cloves (optional)
  7. 2 leeks, chopped
  8. 50g/2oz butter, plus 25g/1oz for topping
  9. 1 tbsp olive oil
  10. 3 tbsp plain flour
  11. 100g/3½oz raw king prawns
  12. 50g/2oz frozen peas
  13. 1 tbsp finely chopped parsley
  14. 1 unwaxed lemon, finely grated zest
  • Method:
  1. Preheat the oven to 190C/170C Fan/Gas 5.
  2. Prepare mashed potatoes: Boil potatoes until tender. Drain and mash with butter, crème fraîche, and warm milk. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  3. Poach fish: Heat milk in a pan. Add smoked haddock, cod, half onion with bay leaf and cloves. Simmer for 6-7 minutes.
  4. Make sauce: Chop remaining onion and leeks. Fry in butter and olive oil until softened. Stir in flour, then gradually add the poaching milk, stirring well until the sauce thickens. Season to taste.
  5. Combine: Remove fish from the pan, break into chunks, and fold into the sauce. Add prawns, peas, parsley, and lemon zest.
  6. Assemble: Spoon fish mixture into an ovenproof dish. Top with mashed potato, creating a rough texture. Dot with remaining butter.
  7. Bake: Place on a baking tray and cook for 25–30 minutes until golden and bubbling.
